The LPN will be responsible to prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician per NYS guidelines. Assist physicians with exams and minor procedures.Collect blood, tissue or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing. Assists provider in educational activities (Diabetes, Dietary/Weight management, Smoking Cessation, Wound care, etc.) which provide patient focused education to improve specific treatment compliance. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians' instructions to patients. Assist physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments and materials or performing such tasks as assisting with injections, removing sutures and wound care. Assist with all Quality Measures that may be assigned by Provider or Management. Authorize and Pre-certify drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies as directed by physician. Maintain patient flow by directing patients to exam rooms, taking vital sign information; perform finger sticks and other outpatient testing. Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height and record accordingly. Record patients' medical history, vital statistics and information such as test results in medical records. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies. Change dressings on wounds and perform treatments per physician instructions. Set up medical laboratory equipment. Operate electrocardiogram (EKG), and other equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests. Greet and sign in patients arriving at the office. Schedule appointments for patients, perform all functions of scheduling procedures, etc. Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests and procedures. Initiates and receives insurance authorization/pre-certifications as necessary. Performs general office duties such as answering telephones, completing insurance forms and assisting patients as directed by physicians and/or management. Performs other related work as required and as directed by physicians and Manager.
Completion of an accredited or approved program in Licensed Practical Nursing
One year experience in a practice setting preferred
